“Peterborough Pride is Healthy: Community Report on the Queer, Queering, and Questioning: Digital Narratives for Healthcare Education Project”
Presenters: Tara La Rose, MSW, PhD, RSW and Albina Veltman, MD, FRCPC
The Queer, Queering and Questioning Project (QQQ) draws on the experiences of 3 key informant groups as resources for developing LGBTQ health education digital curriculum materials: 1) healthcare providers who currently champion care for queer individuals; 2) practitioners who may be understood as “allies”, having expressed an interest in expanding their skills in providing care to LGBTQ individuals (but who have not yet focused on this work), and 3) queer-identified people as they access health services. Participants from various locations throughout Ontario (including Peterborough) were encouraged to share narratives about LGBTQ healthcare encounters through focus groups and individual interviews. This presentation will focus on the important themes elucidated during the process of creating the digital narrative texts about LGBTQ health with a focus on issues that are particularly relevant to LGBTQ-identified people living in Peterborough/Kawartha.
